Thrifty Thursday ~ Pamper Yourself For Less!
The next time your in need of some TLC, try these luxurious spa treatments!
Chocolate Bubble Bath Recipe
Immerse yourself in the scent of chocolate with this lush chocolate bubble bath recipe!
1 cup bubble bath, unscented
1/3 cup unsweetened soy milk
3 oz dark chocolate (either in chunks broken up or in chips).
Heat soy milk in microwave until hot. Remove from microwave, then add chocolate, stirring well, until chocolate is completely melted. Add to 1 cup bubble bath, stirring well. Allow to cool, then pour into hot running bath water and enjoy!
Espresso Sugar Body Scrub Recipe
Do you love the smell of fresh roasted coffee? This scrub is not only great for
your body, but smells wonderful too, if you are a self admitted coffee lover!
2 cups coffee, coarsely ground
1/2 cup sugar
3 tbsp unscented massage oil
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients, making sure they are throughly mixed. In the shower or bath, use a small amount of espresso sugar body scrub to gently exfoliate your skin. Shower well to rinse off and finish off with moisturizing or body lotion.
Decadent Chocolate Facial Mask Recipe
A great way to treat your face to chocolate, without adding calories to your
waistline!
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup honey
2 tbsp cream
3 tbsp oatmeal powder.
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, combining well. Apply decadent chocolate facial mask to the face, massaging it into the skin gently (the oatmeal will act as an exfoliant). Allow to dry on skin for 20 minutes then rinse off with warm water... you can do this in the shower to keep mess to a minimum! Apply moisturizer as needed.
Hot Oil Hair Treatment
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup boiling water
Place olive oil and boiling water into a large glass bottle or jar with lid (a glass baby bottle with a stopper works well) Be careful, as jar will become hot - you may want to wrap it with a towel. Shake very well until you can see the oil is distributed evenly throughout the water. Massage into hair when just barely cool enough to use. Put a shower cap over your hair (the ones you get in hotel rooms work great - you can also use a plastic grocery bag) then wrap with a damp hot towel. Allow hot oil to work your hair for half an hour, then
shampoo and condition as usual.
Make your own body sugaring "wax"
This natural body sugaring recipe is for hair removal. It is cheaper that buying wax for hair removal because you can make this at home whenever you need it.
2 cups sugar
1/4 cup cold water
1/4 cup lemon juice (pure, not lemonade please!)
candy thermometer
In a medium saucepan, add water, sugar and lemon juice and heat over low heat. Stir the mixture every 15 seconds or so to prevent burning. Keep heating until small bubbles begin to form, then check temperature with a candy thermometer. Once the thermometer reads 250F, remove the saucepan from the heat.Allow the mixture to cool for about 15 minutes, or until it is cool enough to touch without burning your skin. Place body sugaring mixture into a microwave-safe container and seal tightly. Body sugar will keep for one month before needing replacement. Heat in microwave before use. You can use an old cotton tshirt cut into strips for hair removal. You can apply with a wooden spoon or stick in a layer about 1/8" thick, then press cotton strips on top of body sugar then pull to remove, making sure to remove in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Pull as quickly as possible!
Hand and Nail Treatment
Use this recipe to help your hands, especially if they tend to get "work worn"
from gardening or other hand use.
Fill a large bowl with warm water. Add 2 mint tea bags, and let steep for about ten minutes. You will have to add a bit more warm water at the end of the ten minutes, unless you don't mind putting your hands in lukewarm water. Let your hands soak for five minutes.
White Chocolate Lip Balm Recipe
Make your chocolate lip balm super gourmet with white chocolate instead of
regular brown chocolate.
3 tbsp Cocoa butter
3-4 regular size white chocolate chips
1 vitamin E capsule (available at pharmacies)
1/4 tsp almond extract
In a microwave-safe glass dish, melt cocoa butter in microwave, watching it melt carefully. Remove dish from microwave (warning, it will be hot!) and add the white chocolate chips, stirring until chips are fully melted and combined with butter. Next, add vitamin E and extract, stirring well again until all lumps are gone. While still hot, pour into a clean lip balm tube or pot. Allow to cool to set, then enjoy!

Wisdom Wednesday
Sunshine Chaser
Diana and Dave love to ride their jet skis on the lake, skimming across the water on warm sunny days. But one morning the weather was cool and mostly cloudy, and Diana couldn’t convince Dave to go out. So she went on her own. It was so cold that she flitted back and forth across the lake, trying to keep herself in the sunshine for some needed warmth. But every time she reached a sunny area, the clouds moved and it quickly turned to shade. Realizing the futility and silliness of chasing the sunshine, she finally gave up because it didn’t bring her what she wanted.
King Solomon did another kind of chasing that couldn’t bring him satisfaction (Eccl. 2:1). In the first 11 verses of Ecclesiastes 2 alone, he mentions that he chased after pleasure, laughter, wine, wisdom, houses, gardens, money, possessions, and music. But his evaluation was that “all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun” (2:11). Those pursuits were empty—“vanity of vanities” (1:2). He wisely concluded: “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all” (12:13).
Are you chasing after some of the same things that Solomon was? It’s a vain pursuit. Purpose and satisfaction come only from knowing and obeying God.
Chasing after empty pleasure
Will not satisfy one’s heart;
But to those who follow Jesus,
Life’s fulfillment He’ll impart. —Sper
Only God can fill an empty heart.

This is too easy!!
Why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because we are all only 5 minutes away from warm, gooey, delicious chocolate cake any time, night or day.

Wisdom Wednesday
Summer is my favorite season. I love the leisurely days when I can set aside some of my routines without feeling guilty. Doing new things, seeing new places, and allowing myself the time to take “the scenic route” revive my spirit and renew my enthusiasm for life and work.
But summer can also be a dangerous time of breaking good habits. Certain routines are good. They increase our efficiency and ensure that important things get done. After all, we need to have fixed times and places for certain things or the world would be chaotic. Creation is designed to operate on schedule, and, as part of it, so are we. We need food and sleep at regular intervals.
We sometimes hear legitimate warnings about allowing routines to turn into ruts. But the Bible indicates that having set times for certain things is good. David indicated that morning was the right time for him to praise God and ask for His direction (Ps. 5:3; 143:8). And Daniel prayed three times a day, and not even the threat of death made him change his routine (Dan. 6:10).
While enjoying carefree days, we must not become careless about spending time with God. Savoring spiritual sustenance is a routine for all seasons.
You’ll go forth a little stronger
With a fresh supply of grace,
If each day you meet the Savior
In a secret, quiet place. —Adams
Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. —Isaiah 40:31

Tasty Treat Tuesday
Homemade Donuts
You probably already know how to make these delicious donuts out of biscuits...
I used Grands Biscuits and cut out the center with a smaller cookie cutter, then cut out the
center of that donut with an even smaller one making 3 different sizes.
Drop them in hot oil and cook til golden brown. Place on a paper towel to drain.
Once they cool a little, I like to make a glaze to dip them in. Here is the recipe for it:
Krispy Kreme Glaze
1/3 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4−6 tbsp. hot water
Heat butter until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Stir in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.
OR You can always shake them in powdered sugar and they'll be just as good.
Enjoy!

Teach your kids a game from your childhood―such as hopscotch, jacks or four-square.
It's the last weekend before school starts, so do something fun with your children!

Wisdom Wednesday
As we sat at the table one day last week, my oldest son began protesting about his little sister “always” copying him. When she imitates his laugh or eats her French fries before her burger like he does, it annoys him. My wife and I tried to get him to realize that he has an opportunity to influence her by setting a good example.
Unlike my son, Paul invited others to copy his example (1 Cor. 11:1). In this verse, he concluded his discussion from chapter 10 about the Corinthians loving others enough to limit their freedom. He said that when they were invited to a nonbeliever’s home for dinner, they were free to eat what was set before them (v.27). But if their freedom to eat the meat offered to idols caused another believer to question whether or not what they were doing was right, they were to limit their freedom for the good of the “weaker” believer (v.28).
Paul encouraged the people to follow his example in this matter, in the same way he followed Christ’s example. Paul did not seek his own good, but the good of others by imitating Jesus’ example of love, unity, acceptance, and sacrifice.
In the same way, we are to follow Jesus’ example so closely that we can say with confidence to our brothers and sisters, “Copy me as I copy Christ.”
Show me the way, Lord, let my light shine
As an example of good to mankind.
Help them to see the patterns of Thee,
Shining in beauty, lived out in me. —Neuer
Live a life worth imitating by imitating Christ.

Family Fun Friday
Keep the kids cool without a pool
* Fill an oversized bucket wtih water and put it in the middle of the yard. Your kids can use it to fill water guns and have water wars. This also keeps you from running the water hose constantly.
* Clean and save bottles such as shampoo, ketchup, and dish soap-to use as water squirters on hot days.
* If you have a trampoline, put a sprinkler underneath it.
* Go down to the creek and let your kids splash around in the water.
* Play Water Balloon Catch
Instructions:
Create the catchers by cutting the bottom off a gallon-size milk jug (one for each player), taping the cut edges, and decorating with ribbon, as shown.
Fill a bunch of water balloons to the size of a grapefruit.
See how many times you can toss the balloons without breaking them or how far you can catch and throw them.
You need:
Gallon-size milk jugs (one for each player)
Tape
Ribbons
Water balloons
*Play Fill "Er Up!
Divide the group into teams of two. Have teammates stand six feet from one another, one holding a small cup with a Ping-Pong ball in it and the other a water-filled spray bottle.
On "go," players with bottles try to be the first to squirt enough water into their teammate's cup to float out the ball. Keep a bucket of water nearby for refilling. If teammates get closer than six feet, they must dump out the water in the cup and start over.
* Fill up your bathtub with cool water and let your kids put their bathings suits on. Throw in some toys or bathtime crayons.
* Play Splashdown
Instructions:
Each player gets a small bucket filled with water, and a big car wash sponge.
Players stand about 8 feet apart with their buckets on the ground directly in
front of them. Each player tries to throw her wet sponge into the other's bucket
(and splash the other player, of course!). Each successful toss is worth one point.
The sponges are thrown back and forth until one player reaches an agreed-upon
point total — or both players just start throwing sponges at each other.
You need:
1 small bucket (ours were 2-1/2 gallons) for each player
Water
1 big car wash sponge for each player

I saved $102.00!!
I went to CVS, Kroger and Walmart last night. I got groceries, school supplies and stocked up on cereal, oatmeal, chips, gummies and vitamins and saved $102.00!!!
All you have to do is make a meal plan based on whats on sale, match them up with coupons at http://www.kingdomklipper.blogspot.com/ and your ready to go!
CVS offers Extra Care Bucks ( ECB ) that you can use toward your next purchase!
check out http://www.thriftytiff.com/ for details on becoming a CVSer!
This week, Kroger offers $4 off your next purchase when you mix and match any 4 participating P & G products using your Kroger Plus card. A sneaky little trick I like to use is....I buy 4 participating P & G products using my Kroger Plus card, cellfire coupons and manufactorer's coupons. I pay for those items and my $4 coupon prints. Then I pay for the rest of my groceries and put the $4 coupon toward my bill! That way I make sure I use it. I would hate to lose the coupon and just forget about it. So, next time you need to go to the store, PLAN AHEAD!
Happy Homemaking!

Making Do With Less--in the Kitchen!
© Cyndi Roberts
Making do with less versus making more money:
another definition for "frugal"!
Here are some ideas to help you make do with less in the kitchen!
Stretch a meatloaf by adding oatmeal, or rice.
Always try to make your oven do double-duty when you heat it up. Bake some potatoes alongside those cookies, or biscuits with the meatloaf, etc.
Or simply cook two pies or roasts instead of one. The second goes in the freezer for another time.
When boiling potatoes always save the water. If you're making mashed potatoes, use it instead of part of the milk. Or, you can cool it and water your houseplants.
Save up to $1.00 per pound on boneless chicken breasts by doing the boning yourself using a sharp knife.
Learning to cut up a whole chicken can save you money, too. All you need is a good sharp knife and a little practice.
If you have freezer space, buy an extra turkey at Christmas or an extra ham at Easter when they are on sale, probably at the lowest price all year!
Learn to grow your own herbs. Just a few pots of herbs growing on your kitchen windowsill can help out the budget. Swap cuttings with friends.
Plan one meatless meal per week. Assuming you used 1 pound of meat at $2.00 per pound, cutting one meal per week for one year would save $104.00!
When shopping for groceries, don't assume that just because the grocery store has an item prominently displayed with the price in big letters that it is automatically a "good price". Know your prices or keep a grocery price book.
Make your own self-rising flour. For each cup of flour in a recipe, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Out of baking powder? Use 1 teaspoon baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar for each teaspoon of baking powder called for.
Never buy bottled juice that says "from concentrate".
Buy frozen concentrated juice and add your own water.
The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with ONLY a loaf of bread are three billion to one. --Erma Bombeck

Making a Mess
Read Leviticus 16:23–28
Chuck ran into the house. He was in a hurry and forgot, again, to take off his shoes. His mother had told him many times where to leave them before entering the house.
The dirt, mud, and grass came with Chuck as he hurried to grab the new football. He glanced at the floor on his way out and thought, “Will I always make such a mess?”
Aaron is to go into the Tent of Meeting and take off the linen garments he put on before he entered the Most Holy Place, and he is to leave them there (Leviticus 16:23).
That text from Leviticus reminds us of Old Testament regulations. In the new covenant, we’re reminded by water baptism and Communion of the permanent forgiveness through Christ. Baptism is an act of obedience that symbolically portrays the washing away of our sins. Our dirty shoes and messy mistakes can be removed; we can enter the place of God’s presence. Because of Christ, we can be clean inside. And we can remember what was paid to remove our mess from our lives.
Challenge for Today: Refuse to pursue a life without God’s work of making you clean.

Lovely Leftovers
I love leftovers. I had 1/2 lb. of breakfast sausage
in the refrigerator and not sure what to do with it.
So, I got creative! I had some leftover meatsauce in
the freezer, two different types of pasta in the cabinet
a jar of spaghetti sauce, onion, and spices.
I had bought a loaf of pre-sliced italian bread at
Walmart for .90 and stuck it in the freezer for
nights like this. I mixed up my own garlic butter
and viola! Dinner is served!
